Why Choose My Treehut

as your child’s early learning centre?

The single-minded goal of the teachers at My Treehut is to give tamariki the best possible start to their ongoing education and life. Our skilled kaiako are here to encourage, extend or let tamariki learn alone. We read each situation to see what we feel is necessary for tamariki to gain the most from their learning experience – whether this be a kaiako to help them tie a rope to a tree, help to use a laptop or book researching a type of bird they have seen in the garden, or a kaiako may watch from a distance as tamaiti problem solve alone, or maybe join in with them and their peers to create a space ship.

A sense of wonder and adventure is important to us. We encourage bare feet, hills to ride down, real tools to use and mud, glorious mud. All of this is on offer at My Treehut. Life is really fun here. There are safety expectations as we teach tamariki to keep themselves safe while testing their physical abilities and learning what they are capable of.

Established by Kirsty Darvill, My Treehut makes the most of indoor-outdoor connection, encouraging tamariki to play amongst the natural, tree-filled setting. We love interactive experiences such as our worm farm, vegetable garden, ICT, games, experiments and excursions into the community.

Explore Our Learning Space

Our centre is designed to create a learning space with a home-away-from-home feel.

At My Treehut we value having nature on our doorstep. Our learning space has been developed in a way that allows tamariki to use their skills to create new spaces and activities as they choose. Our beautiful big garden has plenty of space for tamariki to run and explore. It also has a great sandpit, man-made stream, swings, trees to climb, a bike track through the trees, a bouldering wall, monkey bars, mud kitchen, obstacle courses that are ever evolving and of course a very cool treehut. Our building has been designed to allow for smaller group projects, individual activities and whole centre times. There is indoor and outdoor space for sitting, lying, reading, drawing, dancing, constructing and much more.

The kitchen is the hub of a home, and it is no different at My Treehut. We use a sustainable log burner to heat My Treehut, as well as heat pumps.  At My Treehut we recognise the value of our environment as the ‘third kaiako”. Ample space, natural resources and opportunities enable tamariki to explore, investigate, experiment and enjoy.

We are proud to ensure tamariki and their whānau feel comfortable here.
